Current Traffic
Explore the current traffic status for your institute's LEARN Internet, VPLS, and VPLS Backup links
LEARN provides it's members with ethernet VPN connectivity and internet access services through a virtual private LAN service (VPLS) network. The virtual private LAN service (VPLS) is an Ethernet-based point-to-multipoint Layer 2 virtual private network (VPN) that enables you to connect geographically dispersed Ethernet local area network (LAN) sites to each other across an MPLS backbone. For customers who implement VPLS, all sites appear to be in the same Ethernet LAN even though traffic travels across service provider networks. Almost all of the Sri Lankan academic and research institutes currently connect to our VPLS network ensuring that all the members have a dedicated connectivity with each other.
Our network is an advanced network supporting IPv6 and multicast. It currently provides optical fiber links ranging from 10Mbps to 2Gbps and capable of providing links upto 10Gbps on request. LEARN also maintains a second VPLS network as an backup connectivity for the insitutes. It provides fiber links with the capacity of 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps. At present, our total international connectivity bandwidth is 20 Gbps including 5Gbps link to singapore which connects to world-wide academic and research networks including direct connectivity to TEIN4 network, Google, SingAREN IX and Internet2(through SingAREN IX). We also directly connect to National Knowledge Network (NKN) of India through a 1 Gbps link. LEARN has internet transit links with capacity of 10 Gbps and 4 Gbps through our reputed local ISPs.
Locally we are connected to SLT Internet Exchange(IX) through a 20Gbps link. Through this we are directly connected to local ISPs in Sri Lanka. In addition the LEARN network is connected to Local Government Network (LGN) through a 1 Gbps connectivity which is the network connecting government institutions in Sri Lanka.
