The event will be sponsored by DMS Electronics (Pvt) Ltd., Hewlett-Packard, and Aruba Networks. Information Technology Center this time also join hand with LEARN to host this event at the IT Center of University of Peradeniya.

In this three days annual NOC meeting, network engineers are going to present NOC updates since last NOC meeting 2014. They may share the knowledge and experience while presenting current status of their local network and its services, successful stories and future development plans.

The working group formed at the last meeting for the deployment of IPv6 and VOIP will meet again to evaluate the progress they have made so fay. Any issues can be discussed. Deployment of eduroam throughout the LEARN member institutions will be considered.

The eduroam is the secure, worldwide roaming access developed for the international research and education community. 

The concept, infrastructure and configuration details will be covered at the eduroam workshop. At the hands-on session you will be trained to setup eduroam service in your institutions.

At this time, both NOC meeting and eduroam workshop will be held as a combined event, everybody has to stay for all three days.

The LEARN objective of this event is to introduce new technologies, to help member institutions to manage their home network and then to improve its quality of service to support LEARN to properly render its services to the end users. It will also create a forum of technical persons of LEARN member institutions to improve the collaboration.

Meeting Chair/Instructor:
Senevi Herath, LEARN (NREN of Sri Lanka)

Herath had various roles in network engineering and system administration prior to joining LEARN as network/systems engineer and has 15 years of experience in rapidly growing academic network and its services after completion of his degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. He has completed his Masters in Computer Science while he was working as network engineer at university of Peradeniya. He has undergone several training overseas on varies leading network technologies.

He is undertaking LEARN technical matters and voluntary conducting training/workshop regular basis.

 

Eduroam Workshop Instructors:
Paul Hii, Project Manager, Unified Communications and Video, AARNET Pty Ltd

Paul Hii is the Project Manager for Unified Communications and Video and eduroam services in AARNet Pty Ltd (Australian Academic Research Network). Since joining AARNet in 2013, Paul has setup one of the largest and fastest growing cloud based video conferencing service in Australia. Currently, Paul is also helping with the setup of eduroam service in 7 countries (including Sri Lanka) in Asia Pacific. Previously, Paul worked as a network engineer for 5 years at Monash University where he graduated with the Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering (Honours) and Master of Information Technology degrees.

Senevi Herath, LEARN (NREN of Sri Lanka)

Thilina Pathirana, Assistance Network Manager, University of Keleniya

Thilina, the Assistant Network Manager for University of Kelaniya is a graduate from same university and an Incorporated Engineer in Electronics Engineering. He is currently reading for his masters in Information Security from UCSC and has more than 5 years of experience in Network/Systems Engineering. He has participated in several local and foreign trainings on internetworking, routing, Security, SDN, IPv6, VoIP and WLAN. He is responsible for University of Kelaniya (UoK) Data Centre Network Security and University wide Wireless LAN. Because of his work at UoK, they became the first Sri Lankan University to provide IPv6 connectivity for whole user base and first University with full WLAN coverage including hostels. UoK is the first IRO to connect with Sri Lankan NRO because of his work. He is engaged in ISOC Sri Lanka Chapter, CSSL and Sri Lanka Saukyadana Movement where he is doing lectures and training sessions on various technical topics.
